The Porch House is a two storey single unit residential building designed for an older couple. The building is located on a distinctly elongated, narrow, gently sloping plot surrounded by meadows. The particular shape of the plot determines the architectural design of the building which is conceived as a fusion of two separate buildings: a living and a service building connected by a single roof. Another defining feature of the site is also its views – the house is consequently designed to catch the most beautiful views of the surroundings through the windows. Inside the long building the rooms are arranged in a chain, one behind the other; living and sleeping areas for the couple on the ground floor and service and hobby areas in the basement. The interior of the house connects to and extends into the outdoor space via a balcony running along the west façade of the house. The house is designed on two floors, the ground floor (wooden construction) and a semi-basement (concrete construction). The façade of the house is made of wood combined with intricately designed steel details. Contrasts between the solid wooden volume and the lightness of steel elements combine to create the specific character of this country house.
